AppYourMac

Seth Smith just reviewed Mailplane on the AppYourMac site:

Mailplane offers lots of features to make your life easier when it comes to emailing. One of my favorite features is, the function of being easily create attachments by a simple drag and drop method. If you like attaching photo’s or other files, this feature really does come in handy. Another great feature of Mailplane is that you are able to switch between Gmail accounts fast and with no hassle. I myself have about four Gmail accounts and I now have them all synced with Mailplane, it is so much easier to switch between them now that I am using this application. Of course Mailplane stores all of your passwords on a keychain, so once again it saves your time.

Mailplane turned two!

Friday, March 27, 2009

Second Birthday

Mailplane is now two years old! The adventure began March 8th 2007 with the search of 200 "test pilots". March, 14th 2007 was the big day: After MacNN and TUAW wrote about Mailplane, the 200 seats were gone in an hour. Before midnight on the same day a thousand Gmail users were registered on the waiting list!

Much has happened since then. I owe you a big thank you: Thank you for using Mailplane and thank you for your comments, bug reports, ideas, and feature requests. Without you Mailplane wouldn't exist!

Thanks to the faboulous Mailplane translators Mailplane is now used 15 languages and in 71 countries around the world!

New Gmail Lab Features: Youtube, Flickr, Yelp, and Picasa previews

Wednesday, March 25, 2009

Youtube Preview

When you enable these lab feature, Gmail will automatically detect Youtube, Flickr, Picasa, and Yelp links to display nice previews right inside of Mailplane.

From the official Gmail blog:

The truth is, I'm pretty lazy. That's why I like YouTube previews in Gmail chat -- why open a new tab when I can watch the video my friend sent me right there? Gmail currently automatically detects package tracking information, addresses, and event information and shows quick links to delivery status, maps and directions, and Google Calendar. So why couldn't Gmail automatically detect links in emails and show videos, photos, and ratings right inside these messages as well? We built some new Gmail Labs features that do just that. For our first set, we picked stuff that often shows up in email: YouTube videos, Picasa and Flickr links, and Yelp reviews. Turn on Picasa previews from the Labs tab under Settings, and rather than having to click on a Picasa album link to see the photos it contains, you can see photos right in the message itself.

New Gmail Lab Feature: Cancel Send

Cancel Send

This new lab features lets you cancel a message send. But you have to be quick, as the "cancel" link lasts only a few seconds.

From the official Gmail Blog:

This feature can't pull back an email that's already gone; it just holds your message for five seconds so you have a chance to hit the panic button. And don't worry – if you close Gmail or your browser crashes in those few seconds, we'll still send your message.

Mailplane wonderfulness

Just found a nice and personal Mailplane review. It has been written by David Coldrick from Tasmania:

There are a number of differences in my day since I left the corporate life a year ago. One of them is that I now use Gmail exclusively, instead of Mac OS X Mail: I found Gmail via Mail rather clunky, and Gmail kept coming out with more good stuff. But I missed the integration of a Mac desktop app: Mailplane provides that in spades, while retaining the look and feel of Gmail.

French Review: “Découverte du logiciel Mailplane sur Mac”

Wednesday, March 04, 2009

Geekette Blog

The Apple Blog: If Gmail and OS X Had a Love Child

The Apple Blog

Lisa Hoover has written a very nice review about Mailplane. She starts with:

I’ve been a hardcore Gmail user since the early days, when beta really meant the email service was in its infancy. It’s perfect for managing my email but there are two big things Gmail can’t do that seriously hinder my daily workflow: There’s no easy way to switch between Gmail accounts, and no way to drag and drop a attachments into emails.

And then she presents Mailplane:

To get around these two issues, I use Mailplane. It’s a fantastic application that replicates the Gmail interface right on your desktop and integrates so well with your Mac that you’ll never want to access Gmail from the web again.

Gmail update: Attachments with progress bars

Mailplane has always had multiple ways to attach your files and pictures to a message: Drag and Drop, iPhoto plugin, cut and paste, the media browser, screenshots, PDF Service, and more. Now Google has added something many users have waited for: Progress bars when uploading attachments.

Attachment Progress

The new "uploader" is based on the Flash plugin. Some users may experience problems using it. You can always revert to the "classic" attachment uploader if you have trouble. A new attachment setting in your Gmail settings let's you switch:
