Mailplane is working fine, but there are still a few things that bother me:

1. I pipe several email IDs to my GMail. When I click on ‘reply’ in either the top bar, or on the dropdown right hand corner at the top of the mail, it uses the default ‘GMail’ ID instead of automatically choosing the ID to which the mail has been sent. Sometimes I don’t notice. This is a darned nuisance for lists, and basically exposes my GMail ID to people whom I would normally have avoided.

2. When GMail is slow (which has happened, worryingly, several times in the past few weeks), Mailplane basically hangs (‘Still Working…’) and I have to Force Quit and restart it. Often, when I do this, the mail I am trying to send goes pretty fast.

3. I have noticed that mail that I have sent (it shows in my Sent folder) still hangs about in the Drafts folder, which is confusing at best.

Not sure if these are all Mailplane issues or GMail issues, but hope you can sort them out in future updates.

Enjoy your holiday!

Hi Vickram,
Many thanks for your feedback.

1) You can change it in your Gmail settings (click “Settings” on the main page then go to “Accounts”). Below the list of accounts there is a radio button with two choices. Use “Reply from the same address the message was sent to” and it’ll solve your problem.

2) This looks like a Gmail problem. If it happens again, please send me your Console.log (Open Console.app, search for Mailplane, copy/paste to an email).

3) This could be related to 2)

Cheers,

Thanks. I will send you the console.log file if this happens again, and hopefully learn what to watch out for anytime it happens in future.

Incidentally, my settings already have the radio button clicked for ‘Reply from the same address the message was sent to’, so that is not the problem.

Please try to duplicate the reply problem in Safari. If you experience the same problem, it is a Gmail bug. If not, it is related to Mailplane.

Thanks,

It is a GMail problem, or possibly a GMail/Mac problem, because the same thing happens in Safari. Of course, there I have only two choices, with no toolbar 3rd choice for Reply.

Here is the online form to report the problem to Google: http://mail.google.com/support/bin/request.py?ctx=gmail&direct=1

Thanks Ruben. I hope they respond/take care of the issue.

If I have a mail open, and fresh mail comes in, the inbox list does not automatically update itself. This means I don’t have the option of clicking on Newer, but have to return to Inbox in order to refresh the list, and then click on the new mail.

I hope this can be fixed in future updates.

Awesome. Mailplane is excellent.

Two feature requests:

1) Can “Do not disturb” be modified so it is FULLY DND? I.e. shuts off all notifications (as it is now, PLUS, does NOT check for new mail. This would allow for the equivalent of a “check mail manually” option which I find is essential for true GTD work.

2) Work offline? Yes, a local database with “All Mail” may be too large, but what about a work offline mode that only functions Inbox items and anything with labels? That would reduce the size of the local mail database, but still allow some offline functionality. (Yes, Apple Mail can do this, but then we’re stuck without conversations, which I find much less productive.)

Thanks for a great product! Keep up the good work!

Scott

Hi Scott,
Thanks for your feedback - it is much appreciated!
1) Gmail will check for new email regardless of the “Do not disturb” setting. Unfortunately, I cannot change the way Gmail works.
2) Presenting Gmail in offline mode is something Google would need to do, too. Presenting conversations lokal would require to duplicate many Gmail features.
Best regards,

I have the same problem as stated above.  Performance and reliability is decreased in Mailplane.  It has since I started using it. I can’t prove it, but I know it isn’t gmail entirely, I’ve never had such issues in normal gmail.

It is usually when on the message detail pane.  I click send and it it says “still working…” for minutes, I cannot also “Cancel and retry” like I can in the brower AFAIK.

Also tends to happen when removing labels.

Hi Jacob,
Thanks for your problem report.
First: Make sure you have the latest version, use either “Check for updates” or go to the download section of this site.
Next: Reset your Gmail sessions
•  Do a Mailplane->Empty Cache
•  Stop Mailplane
•  Open Finder
•  Go to ~/Library/Application Support/Mailplane
•  Delete all *.cookies files (do not delete Accounts.xml)
•  Start Mailplane

One difference between your browser and Mailplane could be the communication protocol. Mailplane uses https by default, while many users use http in their browsers. You can change the setting in Preferences/Accounts/Use a secure connection.

Let me know if you still experience difficulties.
Best,
