Mailplane 2.0.3 released

Sunday, February 15, 2009

Mailplane 2.0.3 is a free maintenance release. Use Mailplane->Check for update to load it or download it manually.

Release Notes:

  • WORKAROUND: Authentication problem warning.
  • CHANGED: ⌘-L "Apply/Remove Label" panel is back.
  • FIXED: In rare cases external links did open in Mailplane instead of the external browser
  • CHANGED: Password field is now focused when it is empty.
  • NEW: Spanish translation by Juan Antonio Vermejo!
  • UPDATED: Chinese, French, German, Portuguese, and Romanian translations.

⌘-L and the Apply/Remove Label panel

Many users missed Mailplane's way to apply/remove a label. Now it is back. There are still some items missing (star, inbox, spam) - I hope to bring them back, too.

Tip: Use the 'l' or 'v' keyboard shortcuts, if you prefer the Google way using labels.

something’s wrong with the update.  I can’t login.  I get a dropdown box that says “Unknown error: BadRequest.”  It’s got my username and password, but when I click Login it just comes right back up.  Please advise.

“FIXED: In rare cases external links did open in Mailplane instead of the external browser”

Not quite. It still happens to me whenever I click a link for the first time. (OSX 10.4.11 Intel)

Hi DK,
Does it happen only once after switching account, or for each link.
Thanks,

I never switch accounts…

And it *can* happen for each link but usually the first link I click within an email is guaranteed to open in Mailplane. Once I close the Mailplane window and click the link a second time, it opens in my default browser (Safari 3.x).

I also noticed that the links will open in Mailplane every time if I depress the apple cmd key (⌘) and click the link (shortcut used to open a link within a new tab in Safari).

I might also add that this is how I have Safari setup as default. In the General options pane within Safari, I have “Open links from applications” set to “in a new tab in the current window”.

Do you think this setting is causing the issue?

I’ll test the link in Tiger and I’ll try the Safari “in a new tab in the current window” setting.

BTW: Command-Clicking links will open the links in Mailplane and not in Safari. This is a hidden feature as some users want to use Google Calendar inside Mailplane.

Until now I haven’t been sufficiently on top of my email to even bother opening messages from the growl notification.  Now I’m using that feature.. but notice the inability to label messages from the separate window message view. So “overview” & “detail” views can label, but not the “floating/popped out” view. Can this be made available?  Sorry if this question is redundant, I poked around a bit in help, but may have missed mention of this.

Hi LP,
Unfortunately, there no way to apply labels in a separate window: Gmail doesn’t let the user or Mailplane do it.

Plan: Growl notifications open conversations in the main window. It would be faster + you’d get the labels.

I’m having troubling effects from offline gmail.

1) When I flip open my laptop in the morning, I see a lot of growl notifications of new mails, but I don’t see the messages in my inbox until I quit Mailplane and relaunch it.

2) When I try to email a photo from the Mailplan icon in iPhoto, I get an error message from gmail that attachments are not supported in flaky connection mode.  But, I’m not in (as far as I know) flaky connection mode.

I love mailplane—so thank you!

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your problem report.

1) It seems like Gmail doesn’t recognize your Mac is back online. Please try this:
- Click the “Inbox” link, does it get things going?
- Do a View->Reload Page

2) It sounds like you have Google Gears on your Mac. Do you use Mailplane 2.0.3 or 2.1? If you like to use Gmail Offline, please consider the 2.1 beta version: http://mailplaneapp.com/download/beta

Best,

Message - More actions - Create event <—still pops up a “Grrr! A popup blocker may be preventing Gmail from opening the page. If you have a popup blocker, try disabling it to open the window.”

@photom: Thanks for the problem report. Unfortunately, this is a Gmail problem I cannot solve. The same thing happens in Safari…
Kind regards,
Ruben

What the heck? I suddenly can’t use cmnd-uparrow, cmnd-downarrow, cmnd-L, cmnd-T, cmnd-opt-X, cmnd-S, cmnd-opt-D, OR the menu items.  I can click the buttons within the gmail interface however… and cmnd-W works. Is this user error, or is something (mailplane, safari, etc.) being buggy? I’ve already quit, rebooted, and cleared my cache.

Hi LP.

The reason for the problems you are describing is Gmail: Google changed some stuff under the hood. Mailplane 2.1-beta has just been adapted to the changed. Mailplane 2.0.5 will be released in a few hours . Thanks for your patience.

Best,
Ruben

I keep receiving this error even though I am logged in and see email:

Mailplane could not fetch unread mail feed for account .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Please switch to the .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) account to verify the password and account status.

It does the same for all of my accounts. What is the problem?

Thanks,
RC
