Mailplane supports Google Buzz
Monday, February 15, 2010
Exciting news for Gmail users: Google Buzz is here! It allows you to share updates, links, photos, and videos with your friends and/or the world:
As Google Buzz is part of Gmail, it is fully supported by Mailplane. Just enable Buzz using the Buzz promo screen and then click the "Buzz" link in the sidebar to post an update.
What if you don't get the promo page? The Buzz promo screen automatically shows up when you start Mailplane or switch to an account. If you are using "Offline Gmail", you need to enable buzz in your preferred web browser. The use the Mailplane > Reset Gmail Session menu item to see the Buzz sidebar item in Mailplane.

Hmmm…so negative comments about Buzz are not approved on this blog? Why not Ruben - do you have some link to Google your customers are not aware of?

Hi Ed,
Comments are only moderated to prevent Spam comments, which are a real problem nowadays. I do not prevent negative comments, please check the older blog posts for examples :)

No problem, just wondered why my comment from Monday hadn’t shown up. I see it’s there now…

Hi Ruben,
Any chance of seeing the number of unread Buzz messages in the sub-menu on the menu bar?

Hi Vincent,
Thanks for the feature request. If many people need this, it’ll be considered.

I’m using 2.1.6-preview, and Buzz doesn’t update for me. I can go to the Buzz tab and it works, but it’s as if the Buzz page never refreshes and shows me new items. I can go into Safari or Chrome and see new Buzz posts, but to get the posts to show up in Mailplane, I have to restart Mailplane.
Also, I second some kind of smaller, optional badge in the Menu bar for new Buzz posts. And a growl notification

Hi Joe,
Buzz should work exactly the same in Mailplane and Safari. Maybe you need to re-create your Gmail session? ⌘-click the sign-out link and sign back in.
Thanks for the feature suggestion, too.

hmm, nope - doesn’t seem to make a difference. I just got home awoke my computer from sleep. Mailplane was already open. I received a couple mail notifications and the Inbox refreshed correctly. But then I go to Buzz and it shows the same thing as it did this morning when I put the computer to sleep, even though my Buzz feed has updated throughout the day. I can cmd-click and signout/signin and it is updated, or restart Mailplane and it’s updated, but it will not receive any more updates until I signout/in or restart again.

maybe strike the comment I made earlier tonight. Buzz in Mailplane seems to be working OK for the moment.

Buzz lasted five minutes in my Gmail list before I kicked it out. Besides the poor design and lack of privacy, I do not want chat or any other type of social networking messing up my email. My email client is just for my email, nothing else.
