New Gmail Lab Feature: Send & Archive
Tuesday, January 20, 2009
This feature was requested frequently, and it saves you at least one keystroke or button click per conversation.
Having clicked "Send" followed by "Archive" a few million times, I started to wish there was a way to just click once and accomplish both actions at the same time. So I decided to turn this idea to a Gmail Labs experiment. Turn on "Send & Archive" from the Labs tab under Settings, and you'll see a new button in the compose form labeled just that. The button does what it says: it sends your reply and then archives the thread with one click.
Tip: The File->Send menu item or ⌘⇧D keyboard shortcut performs the "Send and & Archive" if you have enabled the lab feature.

Ruben,
I’d like to enable “Send & Archive”, but I’m in the habit of using Command-Shift-D to send, and I don’t want that shortcut to also archive every time.
Would you consider adding another shortcut for Send & Archive, such as Command-Shift-Option-D or such?

Google has been adding a lot of features to Gmail through the Google Gmail Labs. The latest feature is actually very useful for heavy users of Gmail. This new feature is named Send & Archive. This feature works as the name suggests.
It adds a button to the compose box when you are replying to a mail. This button would send the reply and then archive the message. The user would be sent to the Inbox. This is handy for those users who like to keep their inbox clean and they archive the email messages which they have replied to.
