What’s new with Gmail on iPhone

Monday, October 26, 2009

Google just blogged about the Gmail improvements on the iPhone:

Over the last six months, we've added a lot: mute, label management, keyboard shortcuts, smart links, an outbox, and the ability to move messages (label and archive in one step). Some new features, like swipe-to-archive and auto-expanding compose boxes, take advantage of these mobile phones' unique properties. We also made address auto-complete faster, enhanced refresh capabilities, and sped up loading so Gmail for mobile starts in under three seconds on newer smartphones.

We'll continue to add more functionality —and there's no need to download or update anything as long as you have iPhone/iPod touch OS 2.2.1 or above or are using an Android-powered device. Just go to gmail.com from your mobile browser as you do on your PC.

Ruben,

Any chance you could enhance Mailplane to fake the user agent so that we could could use all of Mailplane’s awesomeness and have a nice, compact window for email using the mobile presentation of gmail rather than the default one?

Thanks for the feature request. It would make Gmail more compact, but it would also break many Mailplane features like attachment drag and drop. Because of this, I don’t think it would be a good feature for Mailplane.

I agree if it breaks functionality, it’s not a good idea.  I didn’t know if you could keep drag and drop, etc.

All these new features are great, but we need notification for new messages.

We have the power to influence the Gmail developers and however many votes each issue has influences the developers.

* When logged into your Gmail account click on the star from the link in my name. This is very important to many people. The only problem is they don’t know about this voting system that Google uses. Please spread the word about the importance of voting on the Gmail-Notification Android and Droid issue.

Thanks for posting the Google Code link above. It looks like there are 146 votes but there are still other issues that outrank it. We need more votes people!

Is there a setting making it possible to delete messages from my phone without having to delete them again once I get on my computer??
