Genuine question: How is this functionally different from using a pop client to get g-mail?
thanks

Hi JM Vignau,
1) No, Mailplane works like a web browser to connect to google and needs a working internet connection.
2) No emails are downloaded, everything is stored on the server.
3) Mailplane supports Gmail only.
Hope this helps!

Hello Indy,
Mailplane 100% uses the Gmail web client that is in many ways supperior to desktop mail clients: Google search, labeling, conversation view etc. are nice features only the google client provides. When you use a traditional mail client and access the message by POP use loose this functionality…

Interesting concept. Very useful for desktop beside my broadband is on all the time. Laptop may miss out, not able to prepare to compose email. Desktop’s compose mail software is specfiyed design to connect to mailplane mail would be bonus. Because I got headache to deal two emails twice from desktop and online googlemail.

I think you’re a bit quick to bash standard mail clients in general and Mail in particular:
“Mail.app has no conversations”
Untrue. Threaded view is available for any mailbox. And unlike Gmail, you can turn it off if you want just a raw list of messages.
“an inferior search,”
Not sure about that—when I type in a search term I have a list of appropriate messages within 10 seconds. Maybe the Gmail search is a little faster than the OSX spotlight search, but I haven’t had a problem finding what I want in Mail
“stores everything locally”
Don’t write off local storage just yet. Without it, you’re dead in the water the moment you lose connectivity. Just watch Gmail users squirm when there’s an Internet outage or they have to get on an airplane and have zero access to their mail. Maybe there’s a way to store Gmail offline? That would be worthwhile.
Besides, if you use a mail provider with IMAP access, you have a perfect mirror of what’s on the server stored locally and at any web terminal in the world.
Mailplane sounds very good and as a Gmail user I’ll definitely check it out, but honestly Gmail is not the ultimate solution for everyone, not by a long shot. (Unless they start offering IMAP, at which point it will be perfect).

Simple question, can I work on my e-mail if my computer is not connected on Internet ?
Are the e-mails downloaded ?
Or is your shareware a web navigator only dedicated to one web page ?
Thanks
